Levine, M.D., The Nyack Hearing Center offers the latest in technological advances in hearing restoration.  This includes further advances in software, miniaturization, and the use of the open fit.  Because their is no occlusion of the ear canal with the open fit hearing aids,  the acoustics and the comfort of these hearing aids are superior and there's less problems with eczema and wax.  The newest digital hearing aids are expertly fitted by Doctor Greenspan who has over 25 years of experience.  Patient satisfaction is our primary goal.

In addition to the latest hearing aid advances, there has been advances in preventing and reversing aging related SNHL (Sensori-neural Hearing Loss).  Currently I am using three supplements which have been shown to reverse or improve SNHL. - Maxgxl, acetyl-L-Carnitine, and CoQ10.  The Maxgxl  increases intracellular levels of glutathione which is necessary to absorb the free radicals that are constantly generated in the mitochondria when oxygen and glucose are burned in the electron transport chain so that ATP (the energy currency of the cell) can be generated.  Without glutathione to reduce that 'exhaust' generated by oxidation, the mitochondrial engine's function declines, less ATP is generated, which the cell needs to carry out numerous functions.  In addition, the unquenched free radicals attack their surroundings causing destruction and deterioration of mitochondrial DNA, and other cellular structures which further prevents normal cell function.  If  the dysfunctional cell is a cochlear hair cell. then the patient will have an inner ear hearing loss or SNHL.  Preventing the cell from dysfunctioning or improving its function should prevent its decline and improve its ability to carry out its specialized function - Hearing.
